2013 Changes from USPS

Here’s a lineup of the changes from the USPS:

January 5, 2013 – Folded Self-Mailer standards have changed!

Effective January 5, 2013 the maximum size for letter class mail has changed!

Old size was 6 1/8” x 11 1/2”. New size as of January 5th is 6” x 10 1/2”. If your postcards, self-mailers, or envelopes exceed the 6” x 10 1/2”, you will be charged FLAT rates for postage!

There are several new rules you should be aware of. You’ll find an overview here. For even more details, click here.

January 27, 2013 – Postage increase

The U.S. Postal Service has proposed a price increase that will take effect January 27, 2013.

Highlights of the new single-piece First-Class Mail pricing include:
Letters (1 oz.) — 1-cent increase to 46 cents
Letters additional ounces — unchanged at 20 cents
Postcards — 1-cent increase to 33 cents

January 28, 2013 – Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMb) will be required on all automation letters and flats.

On January 28, 2013 the USPS will retire the old POSTNET barcode. If you’re using us for mailing services …  you can be assured we have IMb software in place and we are using it for our mail clients. If you’re using someone else or even handling in-house … make sure you comply or you will lose your barcode/automation discounts. For more details on the ruling and “how to” get your IMb, click here.
